Protecting Your Safety

We want to make sure your next visit to SARCAN is as safe as possible. Please read the following information before visiting SARCAN at this time to determine the safest way for you to recycle during COVID-19.

Do not visit SARCAN at this time if:

  • You or someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • You are sick or self-isolating.
  • You or someone within your household has recently returned to Saskatchewan from travel outside of Canada.

Other Considerations

Because we have been closed for over 2 months, we expect to be very busy upon reopening. Please review these considerations before your next trip to SARCAN.

  • If your recycling can wait, please consider visiting SARCAN at a later date this summer.
  • Use Drop & Go to limit your contact with fellow customers and our employees,
    • Drop & Go is the quickest way to drop off containers at SARCAN.
    • Drop & Go is the way to visit SARCAN with the lowest amount of personal contact.
    • You can learn more about how to use Drop & Go by visiting our Drop & Go page
    • Customers are encouraged to set up a Drop & Go account at least 1 hour before visiting using our online registration form to reduce your time in our depot even more.
  • If you want to recycle, but don’t really need the deposit refunds at this time, consider donating containers to a local fundraiser.
    • Larger bulk drop offs by fundraisers mean less people visiting our depots, less customers standing in line, and shorter wait times for those in line.
    • You can donate your containers to Telemiracle, SARCAN’s designated charity of choice, or other worthwhile charitable organizations using Drop & Go to limit your time in the depot.
  • Ask a friend or family member to drop off your recycling on their next visit to limit the number of people visiting SARCAN.
  • If you must visit SARCAN, please observe our Physical Distancing procedures found here
  • Avoid touching our work surfaces (such as carts, chutes, counter tops, and garbage containers) whenever possible.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands before you leave SARCAN using the hand cleaning and hand sanitizing products available.

Tips for a Quicker SARCAN Visit

  • Use Drop & Go for the fastest depot visit possible.
  • Sort your containers by material type (aluminum cans in one bag, plastic containers in one bag, milk jugs in one bag, etc) to help us count containers as quickly as possible.
  • Make sure you remove caps from all containers before coming in.
  • Sort out any non-deposit materials and trash from your order before you visit.
  • Check your local depot’s Google listing to see how busy the depot is expected to be before you visit.
  • Select a less busy time of the week to visit SARCAN (including mid-weekdays and mornings), avoiding our busiest times (such as Saturdays and late afternoons).
  • As our depots are expected to be busier than usual, please do not attempt to phone your depot regarding hours of operation.
  • Hours of operation can be found here on SARCAN’s website.
  • Voicemails regarding hours of operation may not be returned.

Recycling Guide

All SARCAN depots will have a Recycling Guide to help prepare you for your visit to SARCAN. They will be helping you determine the best return option for your containers, will be informing you about our enhanced safety measures, managing lineups, and answering questions. Reach out to our Recycling Guide in the high visibility vest when you arrive at SARCAN to help guide you through your visit.

Our Cleaning Procedures

As we reopen our depots, we are making a concerted effort to keep all SARCAN locations as clean as possible. To date, we have implemented the following enhanced cleaning procedures to keep you and our SARCAN teams safe:

  • Expanding the frequency we clean our facilities, especially for surfaces that are frequently touched with hands, including countertops, doors, doorknobs, buttons, switches, handles, desks, tables, and electronics.
  • Dedicating more staffing time to regular cleaning of commons surfaces.
  • Encouraging all customers to use hand cleaning and sanitizing available at SARCAN before they leave SARCAN facilities.
  • Adding extra resources to counter staff and cashiers, enabling them to clean surfaces more frequently.
  • Enforcing cleaning of chutes and counter surfaces in-between each customer order received using a hard-surface disinfectant.
  • Creating and maintaining a process to clean our Drop & Go screens, turnstiles, and equipment more frequently.

Weekly Container Limit

If you believe you have more than $75 worth of containers to bring in, you may be eligible to make a bulk drop off of containers to the back of our depots. When you arrive, please see our Recycling Guide for guidance on return options for larger orders. Orders over $75 will be paid by cheque only.
