Protecting Our Employees

Protecting our Employees

Our team members are SARCAN’s greatest asset. We are committed to doing everything we can to keep our team members healthy and safe during these unpredictable times.

We are following all recommendations of our provincial health authorities to make sure we continue to provide a safe and healthy work environment for every SARCAN team member.

We will be implementing the following measures to keep our teams safe:

  • All team members who feel sick are to stay home.
  • All team members who have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 are to follow the guidelines outline by health officials.
  • All team members who have recently traveled outside of Canada are to self-isolate and seek testing.
  • Implementing strict physical distancing measures to limit our contact with each other, with customers, and with other partners.
  • Installing physical barriers to further limit employee’s direct exposure and contact with customers.
  • Implementing expanded cleaning procedures at all SARCAN facilities. Those measures can be found here.
  • Implementing measures to manage in-person customer visits, including encouraging customers to use Drop & Go and bottle drives, as well as customer limits.
  • Enforcing proper cleaning and proper use of each team member’s personal protective equipment, including gloves, aprons and hearing protection.
  • Providing detailed training on new physical distancing, hygiene, and cleaning procedures.
  • Creating a process to promptly inform all team members across the SARCAN system in the event a team member tests positive for COVID-19.
  • Implementing phone and video communication to replace in-person meetings (like staff meetings and OH&S meetings) whenever possible.
  • Temporarily halting distribution of all printed material (such as brochures) and giveaways to eliminate contact points.
  • Temporarily halting the PaintShare Program (we still accept approved paint containers for recycling, but will not have any available for the public to reuse) and wine bottle sales to eliminate contact points.

We are commited to continually assessing and implementing new safety measures as needed.
