Physical Distancing

Physical Distancing

During these difficult times, we will be making several changes to the way our customers visit SARCAN to limit the amount of contact you will have between our SARCAN Team members and your fellow customers. We want to thank you in advance for following the directions of our SARCAN employees and observing the following physical distancing measures on your next SARCAN visit.

Drop & Go

Drop & Go is your best option to minimize contact with our staff and your fellow customers at SARCAN. In the interest of physical distancing, we encourage all customers to consider using Drop & Go for your recycling this summer.

  • You can learn more about how to use Drop & Go by visiting our Drop & Go page
  • To limit contact further, only one customer is allowed at the Drop & Go kiosk or Drop & Go room at one time.
  • Typically, orders will be processed within five business days.
  • Payment will be made to you by either PayPal or cheque.
    • Selecting PayPal payment for your Drop & Go account will provide the least amount of contact at SARCAN, and will result in a quicker payment.
    • Cheques for Drop and Go orders must be picked up at the depot.
  • There is no weekly container limit for Drop & Go orders.

Maintaining Physical Distancing

When you visit SARCAN, you will be asked to maintain physical distancing between yourself, our employees, and your fellow customers. Physical distancing means avoiding close contact with others to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

All customers are being asked to keep a minimum distance of 6 feet from our employees and fellow customers while in our recycling depots and in our parking lots. Our Recycling Guides will be wearing high visibility vests and will be present to assist customers.

  • Spaces will be marked on our floors in front of chutes and in our cashier lines to show you the safe distances to stand while being served and awaiting service.
  • Please follow the instructions of our Recycling Guides and employees to make sure you are standing the appropriate distance from others.

Customer Limits

SARCAN will be limiting the number of customers in our depots based on the size of our depots, the number of chutes at our depot, and the number of employees on duty. We will be continually assessing the right number of customers at each depot in order to serve you as safely as possible. Please follow these customer limits posted on our front door and follow the prompts of our employees.

  • If the depot is full, please line up outside and wait for a customer to leave before you enter the depot.
  • Customers will be encouraged to leave the depot immediately after they receive their deposit refund.

One Adult Recycler per Family

We encourage only one person per family or household to visit SARCAN to limit the number of people in our recycling depots. If at all possible, parents are encouraged to not bring their children with them while recycling during COVID-19. If you must bring your children with you, please ensure that they follow physical distancing rules. If you are returning to your depot to pick up a Drop and Go cheque, report to the Recycling Guide. They can retrieve your cheque from inside the depot and bring it to you.

Customer Wait Times

As long as physical distancing measures are in place at SARCAN, we expect that wait times for service will be longer than usual. Compounding this fact is that the summer months at SARCAN are typically busier than other times of the year. We thank you for your patience during this period.

You can help to reduce wait times by:

  • Using Drop & Go for your returns.
  • Choosing less busy times of the week to visit SARCAN.
  • Preparing your order for faster counting by sorting containers by material, removing caps, and removing non-deposit materials and trash from your order before visiting.
  • Donating containers to a fundraiser or bottle drive.
